One Hundred Days: Day Nine
A lighthouse symbolizes strength, guidance and safe harbor. It also warns us of risk.
When I fell and broke my ankle on January 26th, I had no warning. I slipped on algae covered concrete……. two ankle bones snapped….. which necessitated in having 10 screws and a stainless plate inserted during surgery last Monday by Seattle orthopedic surgeonĀ Dr.Mark Reed.
It’s more than 48 hours after the surgery, and I am managing as well as can be expected. The pain suppressors are doing their thing…..positively for post surgery ankle pain and unhappily for my stomach!
So how do you eliminate or minimize risk? If you are a captain at sea the lighthouse can do exactly that; keep your boat away from the ice and rocks even when there is fog.
I can see the Cattle Point lighthouse (above) from my bedroom window and when I see it blinking on a foggy night it gives me a secure feeling…….so what do we need to do to have the equivalent of a light house in view as we navigate the potholes of life?
When we design strategic plans (road-maps of life) with contingencies, we also anticipate when things might go off the track… so we can be prepared. Likewise when we Manage a design project we anticipate solutions we might need in advance.
Planning can minimize risk! If only I had planned and scraped the algae off the concrete!
