One Hundred Days: Day Eighteen
You can read so much from a face; from a facial expression and also what I call face language (like body language) ~ even this mask “The Prince” by Northwest Artist Doug David reveals strength and character and perhaps some bloody mindedness as well.
A telephone conversation can also reveal a great deal about whom you are speaking with; reveal more than email or most online engagement.
I spent a lot of time on the phone today:
I spoke with Nancy at First Green Bank and she is definitely a person I would want on my StartUp team; untypical of people in the banking space:-) She will move heaven and earth to make things happen and keeps her cool no matter what.
I spoke with Brandon, a structural engineer at Maple Brook Engineering. Untypical of many engineers I have worked with in the past, he offers several options in an effort to find the simplest (often most cost effective) solution. We did not get bogged down in complexity like many engineers do, and complexity ends up costing and going over budget. He was articulate and upbeat and obviously loves what he does including his actual interface with clients. Many engineers don’t like people (I say this as often they have told me so)
I spoke with long time (well it’s been 14 years) friend Dr.Nancy who had major knee reconstruction three days after my ankle surgery. I know her in the real life universe so when talking on the phone I can visualize her facial language. We shared our recuperation journeys, but not without humor of course. What comes across when talking with Dr.Nancy is caring, and very supportive with a dose of no nonsense. I’d say this even if phone contact was all I had experienced! Dr. Nancy pioneered one of the first concierge practices in Washington, Guardian Family Care
Conclusion: Being connected to people and hearing their voices, working together to solve interesting problems is an important part of the recuperation journey. Thank you all three of you for your contribution today. You made my day!
Challenge: Elevate and ice ~ I need to be more committed to get the ankle swelling down so the stitches can be removed on Tuesday.
Interesting Read: Adaptive Tai Chi and I am going to start this tomorrow from my enforced seated position in a chair with wheels.
