One Hundred Days: Day Fifty
I’ve reached the halfway mark of my recuperation journey. My reward was to buy a scale; believe it or not I don’t have a bathroom scale in my house and it’s now become a vital tool in my next steps!
I will be practicing putting weight on my right ankle……and Dr.Reed has laid out a plan. All based on the gradual increase of weight…. and how do I find out the prescribed weight ..step on the scale and see what it feels like. Every two days I increase the weight in increments of 25lbs. So day 1 and 2 is 25lbs, day 3 and 4 is 50lbs, day 5 and 6 is 75 lbs and so on until I am at full weight. I am to do this for an hour a day but not all at one time.
My Xrays indicated excellent healing, everything was straight and the breaks barely visible! The hardware was melding with my bone and Dr.Reed was extremely pleased with the rotation of my ankle, which of course I attribute to the alphabet and achilles exercises and the fact I did everything religiously for four weeks.
He was also pleased and noted the surgical scars were considerably diminished and almost gone!
What is good about all this is that I don’t get to do PT…… I don’t need to sleep with the “boot” on, and as soon as I can put my weight on my foot I can remove the boot to drive…… and I was told at the start of my recuperation journey it would be twelve weeks before I could drive again. It’s six weeks and two days since my surgery, and my accident was a week prior to that.
Conclusion: A really good day to day……..I get the strong feeling I’ll be back on my feet in less than a couple of weeks….. still in that protective boot and still with my mother’s cane…….but actually walking again!
Challenge: Figuring out the best way to practice the weight bearing……
Thanks to everyone for sending their supportive messages for today.
