One Hundred Days: Day Sixty-Two

Spread the love

This past weekend consisted of a couple of Blue days…..this was my view for most of the weekend as I was feet up and in no-weight -bearing mode! I also had to re-think my recuperation process and the recent instructions from Dr. Reed. It was time to change gears and customize for me.

What this means is the weight-bearing, one foot 100lbs in an uncomfortable boot was the equivalent of walking in Italy on a cobblestone road, high humidity and over 90 degrees in badly fitting shoes!

What this means is a badly swollen foot and ankle revealed late on Friday; leading to a quiet weekend off my feet.

Added to this the frustration that I could not reach my Dr via the Proliance answering service……I tried 4 times Friday evening.

So today I designed a new process. Instead of standing like a stork on one foot, I’d walk for 10 minutes at a time with a walker (quickly procured from our local Hospice which seems to have what ever is needed) ~ this means that the weight bearing on my ankle is more natural and true to life, and I plan to walk for an hour a day in ten minute segments.

After walking I removed the beastly boot and put ice on my ankle for ten minutes or so. Marge came to the rescue again with a “gel” insert for the boot which helps a bit. I’ve also ordered memory foam inserts from the big “A” which should be here in a couple of days.

Finally I called SOC again after lunch as there was no response to my message for Dr.Reed (left yesterday) and finally my latest call was returned by Adam, his PA . I went over my new custom process and he had nothing to add even after checking with Dr. Reed. I do still have to keep the beastly uncomfortable boot on until I see Dr.Reed in two and half weeks; that means keeping it on whenever I am bearing weight on my foot!

I’ll keep working on getting the boot less of an aggravating ingredient in my recuperation journey…..but I only have eighteen days…….and then hopefully I dump it!

Conclusion: Even with a highly respected medical facility and Doctor, you have to wing it on your own…..obviously if it had been in a life threatening emergency I could have got someones attention. I hope!

Challenge: To stay true to my self-prescribed course and not get de-focused by anger…….and lose sight of my real recuperation goals.
