EAT LOCAL!

Does “EAT LOCAL” and ” FARM-TO-TABLE”  resonate with you? If so read on………

 

What does”EAT LOCAL” actually mean?

I’ve seen several definitions:

– on my Island

– within 50 miles

– within one day’s drive…….

 

Whenever possible I eat local......These vegetables were picked only a few hour before they arrived at the market, in this case the local farmers market.

I always seem to get it wrong with peppers; when I want mild, I get hot....does make life interesting...

This is one of my favorite stops and their FARM STAND at the farm is the best.

Fresh herbs in abundance, and even though I grow my own I always find something new and different to try out.

A real treat is the locally grown and butchered organic lamb, beef and pork...... there really is no substitute!

All summer long we have the choice of the freshest of fresh lettuce. After this, winter is especially hard.

This is some of the best smoked salmon I have ever eaten and it's perfection with eggs.

Local peaches are a rare treat, though we do have an abundance of strawberries, raspberries and apples.

These flowers were by Ralph ( not as in Lauren!) who helps at the farm and only recently learned how to do the flower arrangements being sold at that market. This was a striking original combination I could not resist!

Dinner designed! And my menu featured a medley of sauteed vegetables in olive oil, sea salt and greater medley of fresh herbs. Everything is local except the sea salt from France and the olive oil from Peetalum, California (O OLIVE OIL).... not sure you can drive there in a day!

The salmon I basted in O OLIVE OIL ( the blood organge variety) and grilled on a FUEGO grill.

The fog retreated ans we had a gorgeous view again from our deck.

The lemony mayonnaise (with fresh chives) made more lemony on account of lemons from an undisclosed location.

The dinner wine was from NAPA cellar a 2008 Chardonnay, recommended by chef Peter and yes, you can drive there in a day if you are driving a Ferrari  550 Maranello!

The desert wine which drenched the local strawberries (below) was the special local vineyard raspberry wine….somehow especially good on strawberries.

The confectioners sugar did not fit local criteria. Neither did the Nespresso espresso and bitter chocolate.

Buy local and EAT LOCAL whenever you can.
